Sun., 4/7/13 KCVJMC Spring Ride (New Century, KS)

The KCVJMC kicked off the 2013 season with a wonderful ride to the New Century AirCenter - New Century, KS.  We began the day early with breakfast at Perkins Restaurant in Overland Park.  At 10am, several members (and new prospects) joined us in the parking lot for a 14-bike caravan.  Bikes ranged from a scooter to several Honda CB100s to a Kawasaki W650 to custom vintage bikes.  See the images below for bike details.

The 20-mile (30-minute) leisurely journey passed through Overland Park, Lenexa, Olathe, and eventually ended at the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Heart of America Wing hangers for a vintage motorcycle and antique plane photo shoot.  The final picture will be used for our August Midwest Regional VJMC event flyer.

After "herding the cats" and taking all types of different pictures, the KCVJMC was given a tour of the CAF hangar and museum.  I'm leaving out the tour details so as not to spoil the surprise later this summer.  Just know you'll see this unique piece of aviation history when attending our VJMC Midwest Regional event Saturday, 8/10/13.  Their hangar and museum are a magnificent piece of local military involvement, dedication, and respect.

What began as a chilly morning finished as a warm afternoon filled with lots of smiles and laughter.  A special thank you to KCVJMC member Jim Boughan who led the ride and was also our gracious CAF host.
