Sat., 5/11/13 KCVJMC 3rd Annual May Show and Swap (Kansas City, KS)

As is usual the Midwest weather is almost always an issue and the week prior to the show many of us followed the weather closely.  It turned out to be a great day, a little chilly early in the morning but ended in the mid 60's!  Our club has continued to grow and we had a great club membership turnout.  We had at least 150 motorcycles in the show with many bikes being customized.  One man brought a beautifully restored stock Honda S-90 with a "cafe racer" version of an S-90 as well.  Both were in exceptional condition. We had an almost complete set of early Honda CB fours. This included several CB350's fours, several CB400f's, two CB500's, a CB550, several CB650's, numerous pre-1979 CB750's, and a CB900.  A local dealer also brought the new 2013 CB1100 four which will certainly become a classic in the future.  A beautiful 1967 CL90 was shown as well as two CL175's.  One of the CL 175's was a stock model in good original condition; the other one is raced in AHRMA.  Many bikes were stock but the event also exhibited some beautiful cafe racer versions of our favorite vintage bikes.  There were at least three Yamaha XS650 customs which had been carefully built.  Along with several Kawasaki triples, there were also many early Japanese dirt bikes being shown.

Thank you to our show sponsors:

  • This event was a fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and our club had tremendous help from their organization.  Darrell Smith, MDA Regional Director, told us the event had been a huge success as we raised over $3000 for their organization.
  • We also had a great deal of support from Schembri Flooring and Design who offered us the use of their land and facilities.
  • Associated Wholesale Grocers (AWG) and Festival Foods provided the food and drinks.  All proceeds went to MDA.
  • Martech Printing, a local marketing company, printed several thousand color fliers as well as designed and printed some great collectable posters.
  • Elscott Studios created a special design for our t-shirts.
  • Union Shop Apparel gave all of our show volunteer staff free t-shirts all embossed with the Elscott design.
  • Clymer Manuals provided a kind monetary donation to MDA and also supplied a number of Clymer motorcycle service manuals as show give-aways.
The support was great and all of the funds which were generated went to support MDA.  One of our KCVJMC members, Joe Galetti, was instrumental marshaling so much support.  Thank you, Joe!!

We also invited several other local motorcycle clubs to attend the event and represent:

  1. The Santa Fe Trail Motorcycle Club, which is the Kansas City chapter of the AMCA (Antique Motorcycle Club of America) attended.
  2. One of the largest Kansas City enthusiast based motorcycle clubs, HoAME (Heart of America Motorcycle Enthusiasts) attended.
  3. The VCME (Vintage and Custom Motorcycle Enthusiasts) Club attended.

The KCVJMC has worked hard to collaborate with other vintage motorcycle groups in the Kansas City area to help create a friendly atmosphere between different clubs.  We all just like old bikes!
