What do Kansas City, the month of May, and 2015 have in common? RAIN! During the first 27 days of the month, 23 days featured rain at some point in the metro. But that didn't stop us! Our 5th Annual KCVJMC Spring Show was a spectacular display of Japanese bikes despite a rain threat all day.

As I drove to Independence, MO the morning of the show it started raining. Not a light sprinkle but a solid rain that put my spirits in the funk. We've spent months planning our first outdoor show of the year and many club members helped prep for the event. Now showers rolled in at 6:30a and it appeared the event was headed toward certain failure.

I arrived at the event location about 7am and, by some stroke of fortune, the sun came out. Nearby showers bypassed the event site and ominous dark clouds headed north. I simply couldn't believe it. We had a chance for a successful show and to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

By the time the event ended we counted approx. 80-90 motorcycles and had raised over $2400 for MDA!

Given the adverse conditions, the show's success is due to the assistance of many different partners:

THANK YOU Donnell Shiflett, Bart Shiflett, Chris Thacker and the entire staff at Donnell’s Motorcycles! They were gracious hosts once again allowing us complete access to your dealership during the event. They provided their entire parking lot for KCVJMC bikes and donated money as well. They also provided a $200 helmet for a registration giveaway, too. Donnell's Motorcycles is a tremendous partner with the KCVJMC. Remember that when you buy your next motorcycle, need service, or want parts. Please support them in kind.

THANK YOU Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Brian Studdard, Executive Director, and his entire group of MDA volunteers! Our club members understand we “get more when we give” so we’re proud to raise funds for the MDA. Thanks for continuing as a great partner as well. Our thanks to your staff as well for attending the show and making sure all money raised goes finding a cure for this terrible disease. We look forward to helping MDA for years to come.

THANK YOU InkGuru's for providing quality event t-shirts and a killer custom design 2015 show logo. With very affordable costs, tremendous customer service, and a wide choice of shirt colors and sizes we were able to please many attendees. Thanks to you our shirts raised over $500 for MDA.

THANK YOU All Star Catering, Blip Roasters, and KC Pastry Company for the donated food and beverage. Nobody went hungry or thirsty during the event and you kept our energy high the entire time! With your donations, 100% of all monies raised through food/drink sales went to fight muscular dystrophy as well.

THANK YOU show attendees! You make it possible to raise funds for MDA and bring out the best vintage Japanese motorcycles in the region. I've got to hand this one to you. Even though the weather was dicey you came out and supported the event. Great effort!!

THANK YOU KCVJMC members! There is no question our overall club success is because of you. This was the best show in terms of volunteer support to date. Everything ran so smoothly with your help Mark and I were able to focus on participant and spectator interaction. In no particular order but all of significant importance: John B., Calvin R., Bill and Sandy B., Jim B., Jim K. (and grandson Xavier), Fred R., Claude C., Cliff, Joe G., Dennis A., Bob G., Drew W., Mike J., Mike K., Randy S., and Kelli B.

If you know an entity or individual we failed to mention contact us directly. It was an unintended omission and we'll ensure proper recognition is given.

Thanks to everyone for making the 5th Annual KCVJMC Spring Show a success! We look forward to seeing you at our June Rally and Swap Meet!
